The large black-clay Möbius - first introduced here - having received a little TLC and so allowing it to manifest its inherent splendour. The last three images in the earlier introductory Blog post show why some further intervention was required.
A blog aiming to give an insight into my thought and work processes, showcasing works in progress and (for the time being) reconciled, and logging explorations and experimentations. An additional communication tool to an image-based website. Website:www.rosemariepowellsculpture.co.uk

And New Addition to the Form-Finding Series
Returning to the Form-Finding Series with a slightly smaller and more complex variation - 35cmx30cmx24cm.

Möbius Series Continued (III)
First a short prelude to how this Möbius Series began, just over a year ago, with a "pure", white-clay Möbius band (I love the purity and serenity of white clay). 34cmx27cmx20cm. Further images of this piece here, unfired + short intro. and here, fired:
And then came this; again a very pure, simple Möbius band, with the addition of a widening edge that merges into the saddle plane, i.e. where the concave and the convex meet - the crucial point in a Möbius sculptural form. (Called a saddle plane because it is a similar shape to the top of a saddle, a concave crossing over a convex).

Möbius Series Continued (II)
The logging of this Series seems to be going in the inverse direction; this Möbius variation was made before the one logged in the previous post, and the next post will be looking at the two forms that came before this one. 🙃
So this is a development on the pure archetype Möbius strip (I shall log a version of that in the subsequent post). By simply twisting one edge into a more pronounced curve it takes a small step away from the 'pure' form
I love how substantial this piece looks pre-firing; a really strong presence in its rawness:
Naturally - sadly? - the clay shrinks as it fires, which changes the overall 'feel' of the form. It still works, in a different way (32cmx26cmx20cm):

Möbius Series Continued (I)
Whilst the latest Möbius piece (A Further Exploration) is continuing to dry out before firing, I want to dedicate individual posts to each of the most recent pieces.
By way of a more in-depth recap., here is an overview of what has gone before in the whole series (or click on Möbius in the Series/Themes drop-down menu on the right hand-side of the screen) - scrolling down fully [2 screens - "Older Posts"] to the beginning on 8 April: Möbius Overview
So this post is dedicated to the last piece to have been fired (45cmx35cmx20cm):
The last three images illustrate how the firing has created spotting on the horizontal convex. I am in the process of deciding whether or not this works aesthetically, and if not what the next step should be. ...

A more 'permanent' solution to support the vertical position in development ☺️
